About Us

Oakey Dokey offers a unique range of high quality children’s bedroom furniture, designed specifically to put the fun back into children’s bedrooms. Each piece is handmade to order in a small workshop on the outskirts of Lichfield, using solid oak and high quality real oak veneers.

It all began back in 2000, when I received a request from a friend for a piece of bedroom furniture to solve a storage problem for a little dairy farmer by the name of William, aged two. Space was limited and he required hanging space and drawers. What could I do?  Inspired by his dad's fleet of shiny red Massey Ferguson tractors, I decided to combine a wardrobe and chest of drawers into the form of a tractor. That original tractor is still going strong today and is in constant use by now not so little William and his little brother Richard. 

Since that day the business has steadily grown and now offers a wide and ever-expanding range of children’s bedroom furniture. Each piece reflects our enthusiasm and passion for building high quality individual items of furniture that possess a warmth and character all of their own.

Why oak?. For centuries oak has been chosen to produce some of the finest furniture, ships and buildings in the world. Mother Nature takes the humble acorn and slowly nurtures it to create a wood that possesses  beautiful graining and attractive knots, combined with incredible natural strength and a soft mellow warmth. In fact Mother Nature is so skilled at her task that no two planks of wood are ever the same, which in turn means that every piece of furniture we produce will be unique.

Great emphasis is placed on safety with rounded edges, easy slide drawers to protect little fingers and a child safe natural oil finish which enhances the wood’s inherent beauty.
